Like meats and rice, kachampuli is the base sauce that they use in almost every curry that gets prepared.

What is so special about Coorg Food? I used to wonder as earlier did not have had a chance to try out Coorg cuisine. I had been hearing about Pondi curry, the famous pork curry from the region. Finally, I got a chance to try it at ‘Together at 12’ when Chef Vanshika Bhatia hosted a Kodava Pop and served dishes from Coorg Region which she had tried during her visit.

Since Rice is in abundance here, they even eat bread made out of rice. In addition, they are warrior tribes so their food initially had mostly been from shikar (hunting) meats.

Like meats and rice, kachampuli is the base sauce that they use in almost every curry that gets prepared. One more interesting fact about Coorg food is that while cooking meat, they generally don’t use additional oil, except for the fat from the meat

Rice being the base for their dishes, you will find different types of staples made out of rice like puttu, otti (baked pieces of rice flour),  and kadumbuttu (rice-flour balls).

Soft, succulent and juicy pieces of pork cooked in simple spices, which also had the flavor of Orange. It was the star dish for me that night. Even the chicken was well cooked.

I personally loved a different kind of pumpkin with sesame and coconut. You can expect nothing short but exceptionally good cocktails at the pop-up. The Golden Sour with turmeric gin and passion fruit with a hint of lime and honey was absolutely brilliant!. Even the Baba Budan with coffee and jaggery and seasame whiskey was excellent. When Nitin Tewari is at the helm, you can’t expect less!

If you are a food lover then Coorg Pop up is a must. Chef Vanshika has done a fantastic job and you all must go and try.
