Since my trip to Gangtok arranged by Exotic Sikkim Tours and Travel was executed so superbly, it was natural for me to book my Pelling tour through them as well. This trip too was conducted professionally with every detail taken care off. Exotic Sikkim is based in Sikkim and their travel specialists speak the language, know the customs, the culture and the laws. Therefore, all my requirements from transport to accommodation to local guides were professionally managed. My travel specialist listened to my ideas, plans and objectives for my trip and then after discussion, advised the best itinerary for Pelling. It was so evident that my travel specialist loves Sikkim and it is her passion, one she was happily sharing with me.

Sanghak Choeling Monastery mysticfoodiemantra.com maneesh srivastvaOn the first day you can either go by cab or walk to Pemayangtse Monastery which is one of the most important monasteries of Sikkim. Pemayangtse means the sublime perfect lotus and is built as per the Mindoling Monastery in Tibet.  Rabdentse was the ancient capital of Sikkim and the ruins here are simple, well maintained, clean and peaceful. The two other worth visiting spots in Pelling are the Sanghak Choeling Monastery which was founded in 1649 A.D. and the helipad. The next day a taxi was arranged for me by Exotic Sikkim and the driver who doubled up as my guide had a 20 year experience in this industry. He was thus experienced, knowledgeable and multilingual which was so convenient as he conversed with the locals in the local language and with me in fluent Hindi and English.

As we drove to Rimbi village from Pelling, I saw elaichi plantations on the sides of the road. In Rimbi village, there is the Rimbi waterfall and an orange garden. Don’t miss Khechuperi Lake which is a holy lake and you can burn incense sticks in front of it. These are sold at its entrance. You can also light butter lamps and rotate the big prayer wheel near the lake. From Khechuperi Lake, the picturesque drive got me to Yuksam which was the first capital of Sikkim in 1641 A.D. Yuksam has the Coronation Throne of Norbugang and behind the throne is a pine tree which is believed to be associated with the coronation. The chorten in front of the throne has soil and water from all over Sikkim while the footprint in stone is said to belong to Lhatsun Chembo.

Yuksam also has the Kathog Lake which is the soul lake of Kathog Rigdzin Chhenpo who was one of the three pioneer lamas who coronated the first monarch of Sikkim. On the way we stopped at Kanchenjunga waterfall which has a mini flying fox and makes for great selfie clicks. The milky Rathong River flowing by, Changi waterfall, Dentam valley view and the Singshore Suspension Bridge are must visits. Singshore is the second highest suspension bridge in Asia. Exotic Sikkim can also arrange a day trip to Sidheshwar Dham or Char Dham, Temi Tea Garden and Buddha Park.
