If I have to sum up my weekend holiday on my birthday which I spent at The Lalit Chandigarh – I would say it’s the best and the biggest hotel in Chandigarh, infact it can be compared to some of the finest five stars in Delhi as well. Warm and courteous staff, excellent food and world class hospitality – That’s how I would like to share experience at Lalit! You will simply love it. Besides this my heartfelt gratitude to Rohit Sharma (PR Corporate) and Manali Pankaj Jain (PR – Lalit Chandigarh) for ensuring that we have a great time! It was heartwarming to have received amazing hospitality that Manali ensured. My family was touched with the surprise Birthday party that had been arranged for me! The cake, the food, handmade bouquet (that took a whole day for Chef to prepare) have crafted beautiful memories and made my day extremely special!

Over last one year I have found my happiness in enjoying weekends in luxurious way without cribbing about exotic locations. Fairly simple ideas and I am sure you would too like to explore as well. Firstly, if weather permits and you like long drives in hills, Himachal has lot of options to offer for weekend stay.

Check into a five star hotel and do nothing! Well, that’s the idea of a luxurious, yet affordable and quick vacation! Chill, drink, eat, swim and repeat. That’s what I enjoy and my family loves it too.

Last month, during my birthday, we decided to do the same and we headed to Chandigarh. We chose Lalit – a little secluded – at the outskirts and located in the Rajiv Gandhi IT park (minutes away from railway station) and just 6 kms from the chandigarh city centre. The interiors and architecture is inspired by Le Corbusier.

The moment you enter in the hotel you will say WOW – It’s a 4 acre property! It’s huge, really huge. On the left you have Le Petit Café and on the right you have The Circle, the lounge bar.

Next you will find the spacious All day Dinning 24/7, which also has a bar and al-fresco area that is for sure will be hit during the winters.

24/7 as the name says is all day dinning and during the high tea they have tea tapir, a local style tea shop with some local snacks to refresh you. Tea was excellent and you shouldn’t miss it.

These are just some of the reasons for us to choose our stay at The Lalit, Chandigarh.

We had great time at Baluchi – their Indian speciality restaurant where we had our lunch. Their trademark “Naan” ery” – is assortment of breads (Bakarkhani Bread, Gilafi Kulcha and much more) paired with wine.

If you don’t have big appetite, I would suggest you to go for their small naans (bread) with paired wine and you will be able to relish Their Dal Baluchi is another star dish at the restaurant, which you must try.  You can finish your meal with mouth-watering Paan kulfi. I never had a better paan kulfi anywhere. The real flavour of pan drives you crazy

Next, if you are in mood for some pan Asian food – Lalit has their pan Asian speciality restaurant OKO. I followed chef’s recommendations. Their sushi platter is excellent and so is their Thai curry. If you are pork lover then you can’t miss their pork belly. Lalit has an excellent range of alcohol, Chandigarh is the city where malts and whisky are more popular than any other drink, and their list of whiskey is excellent.

Don’t forget to check at Kitti Su, the most happening night club in Chandigarh on weekends. The famous Kitti Su which has created wave in Delhi, is now in Chandigarh too.

We had great time here over the weekend. Very prompt service, servers are very quick and take good care of the tables. Sunday brunch was jam packed and yet the servers were prompt. Don’t forget their chai tapir which is at 24/7 during high tea time and you will love it.

Enjoy the pictures till I am be back with my detailed story on the food that we had at The Lalit, Chandigarh.
