Winters and Sarson ka saag is synonymous in north India and I got to know that when I moved to Delhi. Honestly, I have never been a great fan of Sarson ka saag, but have been eating Makki ki roti with milk since my childhood.

When I met Naina, I realised that she makes amazing Sarson ka saag. Post marriage, every year during the winters we used to have this at home. Given that she has spent her childhood in the interiors of Punjab, it isn’t easy for her to appreciate Punjabi food when she has had the privilege to eat food cooked in chulhas! This year too we were planning to make over the weekend.

It is an elaborate process as she ensures that leaves are clean & washed properly. That is what is tedious. She doesn’t like it cut and then simply washed. However, plan changed this weekend and she dropped the idea of making it over this weekend. But the mood to have the delicacy remained.

Amar Jyoti is our go-to place when it comes to Indian food. I and my son are a huge fan of their seek kebab. Tanmeet recommended that we should try their masala makki roti. The food arrived on time and was fresh and hot. The masala makki roti was actually delicious and I wish we could have ordered some more. Saag had the texture and we loved it. We do not quite enjoy Sarson ka saag unless it’s home-cooked, but this was good enough to satiate our hunger for makki ki roti with saad. It came with onion, chutney and jaggery as well.

If you love Makki ki roti and Sarson ka saag, order from Amar Jyoti now. You will love it. We are going to order it again, soon, until Naina decides to cook in her own elaborate way!
